My Sister’s House helps to empower single, adult women to become self-sufficient by providing safe, temporary housing and life skills training. Our ServicesWe offer men daily individual and group counseling, family stabilization, job preparation support, educational/vocational program referrals and peer-to-peer mentoring. Men also are referred to our health center for primary and specialized care, and their children are connected to our Child and Family Services for enrollment in Head Start, early intervention and other services. The program is licensed and funded by the Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Substance Abuse Services. Founded by a group of volunteers in 1980, My Sisters House Inc. provides safe shelter to victims of domestic violence and their children throughout the tri-county area.
SERVICES
Unique to My Sister’s House is its Women to Work program which helps survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking get back on their feet, especially financially. A variety of support groups are offered as part of the Women to Work program, including a Spanish speaking program in Wednesday. The support groups provide information and resources to survivors regardless of ethnicity and is free to all survivors. The donations, volunteer hours, and partnership provided by our compassionate coalition of allies and advocates is a vital part of our strength and stability as the Lowcountry leader in domestic violence survival services. Named for a former Dimock Director of Behavioral Health, the Ruth Kelley Ummi’s House (RKUH) is based in a brownstone in Roxbury’s nearby Fort Hill neighborhood.
Health Care
The Program Director oversees a skilled team of Master’s level clinicians, care coordinators, direct care and administrative staff. Women’s Renewal is funded by the Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Substance Abuse Services and third party insurance (Neighborhood Health Plan, Beacon Health and Network Health). Women’s Renewal welcomes women receiving methadone and/or suboxone as part of a medical assisted treatment program, and women who are pregnant. The 12 riders this year champion everything the race sets out to achieve and are a truly inspirational line-up. Most of the women are complete novice riders within horseracing having never ridden a racehorse until their training had begun.
They also connect women to Dimock’s health services to ensure that they address and learn to manage their health proactively after having possibly neglected it during substance use. My Sister’s House offers a full array of individual and group counseling, case management services and family stabilization support, including 12-step meetings, parenting education, family visits, yoga, mindfulness and healthy cooking. In addition, Many women transition to My Sister’s House directly from our Women’s Renewal program. Our staff help clients learn healthy living skills by managing many of the day to day activities crucial to life in the community. Residents gradually move through different phases of the program as they heal, building a deeper connection to fellow residents along the way and helping new participants get acclimated to the program.

SHELTER
The program provides residents with homework to enhance the learning process as well as a “Roadmap to Recovery,” a planning tool to help them prepare for their life in recovery. The Markel Magnolia Cup has raised a phenomenal £2.4 million for charitable causes since its inception. This year, the Markel Magnolia Cup will support My Sisters’ House, a West Sussex women’s centre. They support any self-identifying woman to improve their welfare and wellbeing, reducing their risk of domestic abuse and supporting recovery. Operating across two hubs, located in the Arun District and Chichester, a presence in the communities, allows My Sisters’ House to help women reach their goals for future employment, education, or training through the Thrive Employability programme. While receiving shelter services through My Sister’s House, clients work directly with a dedicated domestic violence advocate and have access to ongoing group and individual counseling sessions with our clinical therapists.

The exterior environment helps foster the interior one and this time of quiet allows each Sister to enter into the silence of her heart where God alone dwells. Marycrest Manor is a skilled nursing facility surrounded by spacious grounds and lovely gardens, overlooking a magnificent panoramic view of the Los Angeles area. Our precious and loved elders receive the best of skilled nursing care in this serene and tranquil setting.
Safe Haven Shelter Program
This beautiful work, which flows from our Carmelite charism of prayer, sacrifice, and union with God, promotes a deeper spiritual life among God’s people. During time set aside for prayer and reflection, our retreatants experience the profound and unconditional love of God. The Sisters, teachers and staff strive to create an environment of respect, love for those in need, and appreciation for God’s creation. Each new member of SisterHouse is genuinely welcomed and embraced with a love that will continue to speak word and deed as they begin a new life…together. SisterHouse educates and empowers women to lead sober and fulfilling lives by providing a safe and structured spiritual living community.
To serve Asian and Pacific Islander and other underserved women and children impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking by providing a culturally appropriate and responsive safe haven, job training, and community services. Families enter the program having experienced significant trauma, in some cases dating back to the women’s own childhoods. Case managers help each woman develop her plan and find the critical resources she’ll need to move on to permanent housing, advance her education, secure employment and access services for her children. The program also offers an Alumni group, which meets on a monthly basis providing peer-to-peer and relapse prevention support. The Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Substance Abuse Services, the City of Boston’s Department of Neighborhood Development and private donations support the program. Women’s Renewal-Clinical Stabilization Services at Dimock provides intensive clinical services for up to 20 women from one to four weeks, addressing the complex needs of women in early recovery.
Victims who are in immediate danger from verbal, emotional, physical, or sexual abuse are eligible to receive emergency shelter at no charge. At My Sister's House, we are committed to a shared mission to break cycles of domestic violence by providing comprehensive support, services, and education to our clients and community. Our ServicesDuring their time in the program, women are given the space and support to regroup, reflect and refocus their lives. Each week, women receive individual clinical and group therapies that focus on developing effective coping skills and understanding the complex nature of addiction.
They are given support and referrals for housing, employment, and additional counseling that may be necessary once they transition back into the community. My Sister’s House (MSH) is our second “Healing Community,” providing longer-term residential and supportive care for a maximum of 22 women for up to one year. Staff partner with women to develop goals and objectives for all aspects of their life while providing a safe, supportive environment in which clients live independently within the community.
My Sister’s House welcomes women using methadone and/or suboxone and women who are pregnant. The program is funded by the Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Substance Abuse Services. Our emergency shelter provides a safe, comfortable and culturally-appropriate environment for its residents. Clients of all ethnicities can stay at the shelter for up to 90 days and are provided with basic food and supplies, case management and support.
